Bamper harvests expected from irrigation schemes

motorbikes

The District witnessed huge amounts of rainfall since October 2020 and this is a great plus since the district heavily leans on irrigation farming to alleviate the poverty caused by the lingering drought of the past years.

Dams like Mundi, Vurasha, Makapata etc which are being utilised as irrigation centres now contain enough water to sustain this type of farming for almost 2-3 years ahead, according to observers in the community. This comes as a plus to the community because the past years has been very difficult due to limited water. Since most dams went over 85%, we are expecting irrigations to running throughout the year.

As for this year, the irrigation centres around Mberengwa District give good scenery of healthy, evergreen crops and vegetables, and the community can only expect great harvest. AREX officers in the district emphasize the fact that the produce of this year might double or triple last year`s harvest.
