Mberengwa Rural District Council is the rural district local authority over Mberengwa District. It is one of the 8 rural district councils in the Midlands Province. Mberengwa Rural District Council is the sole local government organ in Mberengwa District. The district has 109 primary and 46 secondary schools which are governed by five sector ministries, which include, the government, churches, mines, community as well as the council. Mberengwa Rural District Council oversees 105 primary and 40 secondary schools. Out of the 36 health facilities in the district, the council has 21 of them operating, over which it presides.

The district is in the Midlands province and it falls in region four and five of Zimbabwe. It experiences fair rainfall of (450-650mm) that is subject to periodic seasonal droughts and severe dry spells every year. The farming system in accord with natural factors should be based on livestock production but can be intensified to some extent by growing drought resistant crops.

Mberengwa's population is growing fast due to mining activities that have increased in recent years. This has seen a boom in businesses being setup in the district. Major companies like Pote Holdings, Barmlo Investments & TK engineering have invested in Mberengwa
The district is flooded with minerals mainly gold, limestone, platinum, chrome and iron ore.
